As someone who is self-employed, I have the freedom to create my own schedule, which means no two days are exactly alike. Although my daily routine varies, there are several things I do each day that remain a constant. Since I have completed these tasks over and over again, they have become habitual, meaning I do not have to think about them to act.
For me, having a daily routine is important to my overall well-being because it provides a sense of structure and familiarity. Being a creature of habit, I thrive on knowing that I will have a strong sense of direction and focus each day. With that being said, I am going to shed some light on what a typical day looks like for me:
Getting off on the right foot early on is the key to success and productivity, which is why my morning routine is arguably the most important part of my day. Every day I am awakened by a musical alarm at 7AM that I set on my cell phone the evening prior. After quickly jumping out of bed, I brush my teeth and wash my face before putting on my workout gear and heading to the gym. Since I pride myself on leading a healthy lifestyle, I make an effort to never miss a workout because it jump starts my day and helps to put me in a positive frame of mind. After exercising, I head straight to my local coffee shop and pick up some coffee to get an energy boost! Following that, I head back to my apartment to shower, cook breakfast and do about an hour of work before heading out once again. Some of this work includes checking and responding to business e-mails, catching up on social media and planning my editorial calendar.
What happens next is dependent on what I have lined up for a particular day. I might head out to a business meeting, fashion event or photo shoot. If my schedule is lighter than usual, I will go to a café and continue working, or I might network by meeting up with a fellow blogger or industry contact. Before doing any of this, I typically stop at my neighborhood newsstand to purchase a newspaper and some magazines to catch up on current events. Although my agenda is flexible, and I am able to work from home, I always make an effort to leave my apartment because it prevents any distractions and keeps me focused.
Following all of this, I stop at the supermarket to stock up my fridge and pick up some items to cook for dinner for my husband and I. It is usually around this time, at 6PM sharp, that my alarm will sound loud and clear, reminding me to take my birth control Pill. No matter where I am or what I am doing, I am sure to take my Pill at the same time every day. This is among one of the daily tasks that is so ingrained in me now that it is part of my routine. It is important to take your birth control pill every day (at the same time) for the Pill to help prevent pregnancy.
After dinner, my husband and I clean up the kitchen together while watching the news or some of our favorite reality TV shows. Then it is finally time to wind down from my busy day and get ready to start this routine all over again tomorrow. The last step is to wash up, take off all of my makeup and put on my pajamas. I then climb into bed knowing I’ve completed all my tasks for the day, including taking my birth control pill.
