I’m human, and sometimes I forget things. We all do. As a modern woman, I am not defined by one particular role or job, so honestly, it’s no wonder that I can’t remember everything. I juggle a lot, including two full-time jobs!
That said, there are some things that are really important to remember – like taking the birth control pill on time. I’ve been on oral birth control for many years now. In that time, I have developed a few tips and tricks for how to remember to take the Pill on time each day – which could be applied to anything you want to remember to do daily!
Here are four ways I remember to take my Pill (on time!)
1. Take it with breakfast every morning
For me, this means taking my Pill every morning, after having my morning smoothie. If you already take your pill in the morning, making it a consistent part of a larger morning routine might work well for you. Something that always helps is to place your pill pack in the way of your morning routine – like where you keep your skincare products that you use each morning, for example – so you also have a visual reminder. Just make sure to keep your pill pack out of the reach of any children or pets!
2. Set an alarm on your phone
Because it’s important to take the Pill at the same time every day, a great option is to set a daily alert on your phone. A few of my friends do this and have told me that it really helps them stick to a schedule. If you feel weird about having ‘take your birth control’ pop up on your phone, don’t fret. Name the alert something inconspicuous like, “It’s that time!” and no one will know what time but you.
3. Make it a part of your nightly routine
If you aren’t a morning person or don’t eat breakfast, then this tip is for you. Make taking your birth control pill a part of your nightly routine! Start a list in your head of all the things that you need to do at night and go through that before you are finished leaving the bathroom. This trick works well because often times you forget the little things, even brushing your teeth! We’ve all been there… Also, if you like to sleep in, this routine is for you. Chances are you will be up at the same time every night if you are a night owl.
4. Create a Birth Control Calendar
With the importance of taking your birth control on time, it’s better to have more than one way to help you remember to take your Pill every day. A great way to do this is to create a calendar and put a little check mark next to the days that you took the pill. You can place this calendar anywhere that is in a spot you know you’ll see. Doing this has helped me countless times to keep track of taking the Pill daily! This is also a great place to leave reminders regarding your birth control, such as going to the pharmacy to pick up your new pack.
If you take an oral birth control, like Lo Loestrin Fe (norethindrone acetate and ethinyl estradiol tablets, ethinyl estradiol tablets and ferrous fumarate tablets), then these tips can help you stay on a schedule! Lo Loestrin Fe is an oral birth control pill used for the prevention of pregnancy. It is also a low-dose birth control with 10 mcg of daily estrogen—the lowest amount of daily estrogen on the market. However, if you are moderately obese, discuss with your healthcare provider whether Lo Loestrin Fe is appropriate for you.
